We are hiring an Agricultural Conservation Specialist

Location: Frenchtown NRCS Service Center (currently remote)

Classification: Full-time (37.5 hours/week)

The Agricultural Conservation Specialist provides technical assistance and serves as a liaison to farmers, landowners, other conservation organizations, state and federal agencies on issues related to land and water stewardship and the protection of natural resources.

This position is a partner employee position with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). This position has the role, training opportunities, and responsibility of a soil conservationist; informing on conservation and agricultural programs and assisting in the planning and implementation of conservation practices. The position also has responsibilities towards North Jersey RC&D soil health and water quality initiatives; having the unique ability to participate in grant development, on-farm research, and developing educational, research, and training opportunities that serve farmers.

A qualified candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Agriculture, Environmental Resource Management, or similar degree and a minimum of 3 years experience in an agricultural-related position. Must demonstrate knowledge of farming practices and an understanding of environmental principles. Applicants must also have excellent interpersonal and written communication skills and be able to work collaboratively with a small dedicated team. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required and a working knowledge of ArcGIS is preferred. Certification to write conservation plans a plus. The position is a mix of field and office work. Must possess a valid driver’s license and pass a federal background check.

Terms of employment:

Salary: $45,000-$62,000, commensurate with experience, excellent benefits;

Position supported by contribution agreement and grant funding;

Position housed at the NRCS Frenchtown Service Center (currently remote).
