Scibilia: No-till Drill and Cover Crop Seed

SITE SUMMARY

Scibilia operates a vegetable farm on 47 acres, 40 of which are preserved. He currently cover crops his fields using a spinner.

SITE RESOURCE CONCERN

The spinner results in uneven cover crop germination. It does especially poor around a pond that drains into the Back Brook Tributary due to poor germination and geese.

SOLUTION

A no-till drill will allow for better germination of cover crop seed and a larger variety of choices in suitable cover crop that is not limited to broadcast methods. Reimbursement towards cover crop seed will help alleviate costs of cover cropping.
