Hunterdon County, NJ — April 25, 9:30 am - 3:30 pm
North Jersey RC&D’s Regenerative Farm Network will host a Pastured Poultry Field Day on Saturday, April 25, offering farmers a unique opportunity to learn directly from leading voices in the pastured poultry movement.
This event will take place across two farms in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, combining farm tours with expert-led discussions focused on production, management, and profitability in pastured poultry systems.
Headlining the Field Day is renowned pastured poultry expert Jeff Mattocks, author of Pastured Poultry Feeding and Management (5th edition). Since the late 1990s, Mattocks has been a pioneer in developing feed strategies for pasture-based systems, including early collaborative farm trials with Joel Salatin during the writing of Pastured Poultry Profits. Both played influential roles in shaping the American Pastured Poultry Producers Association (APPPA), which now represents more than 1,200 farmers nationwide. In recognition of his decades-long impact, Mattocks received APPPA’s 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award. Today, he continues to consult with diverse poultry operations across the country.
Participants will visit:
Grand Cru Farm
Established seven years ago with a focus on soil regeneration, Grand Cru Farm integrates vegetables, cut flowers, and poultry into a resilient farming system. The farm specializes in American Bresse chickens for both meat and eggs. Farm Manager Bec Guilloud brings additional expertise in raising and processing Cornish Cross broilers.
Haring Family Farm
Founded in 2012 by Lucas and Elise Haring, the farm began with a meat CSA and has grown into a diversified operation offering pasture-raised meats and eggs through farmers markets, statewide shipping and retail outlets, including their on-farm store. In addition to grassfed beef and pork, the Harings raise laying hens, broilers and turkeys.
Attendees will spend approximately two hours at each farm, gaining an in-depth look at infrastructure, nutrition and bird management. The program also includes a boxed lunch and a short presentation focused on the economics of pastured poultry enterprises.
“This is a rare opportunity to connect with other local farmers and industry leaders who have helped shape the pastured poultry movement,” said a local pastured poultry producer. Farmers are encouraged to bring questions and be ready to engage, observe, and learn.
